MBA Scholarships

Asia Pacific International College has announced Foundation scholarships will be awarded to students to study Master focused on Project and Program Management. The College may also offer limited scholarships to additional suitably qualified applicants.

About the Asia Pacific International College (APIC)

We are an accredited and recognised Australian postgraduate institution based in Sydney with unique courses and end to end service that accelerate career growth of professionals and graduates. APIC is a forward thinking institution set up to educate and train people for present day challenges. We help students rediscover their strengths and chart a path to success. They are guided through a process to identify their strengths, set their own career goals and then plan to realise them with our help. Our unique online tools and systems support this process. We also offer project and program health checks to identify opportunities to increase project and corporate performance.

What is the Foundation Scholarship?

APIC is offering scholarships to international students in 2012 leading to the degree of MBA. APIC invites candidates to apply now for the Foundation Scholarships in Project and Program Management for commencement in September 2012.
The objective of the Scholarships is to provide opportunities to talented students to develop in the field of business and project management. Currently there is an acute shortage of project and program managers with sound general management capabilities worldwide (particularly in emerging economies) and the shortages are expected to worsen over time. The scholarships provide attractive career opportunities for graduates with qualifications in this field.
Each Scholarship covers part of the applicant’s tuition fees over a period of 2 years (applicants shall be responsible for their personal expenses including personal textbooks, library, stationery, printing costs etc).
Degrees and qualifications awarded by APIC are formally recognised and accredited by the government in Australia and have the same standing as those awarded by Australian Universities.
APIC’s programs can turn graduates into competent professionals ready to function in today’s challenging environment. Courses are taught by an internationally regarded team of academics and leading practitioners. Also APIC has advanced tools and systems supporting individual learning and development in a dynamic fashion. Unlike traditional learning methods, APIC’s approach is project-based and supported by a suite of advanced competence-based tools and support systems. Real project, program and organisation units are used as the site of learning.

What are the objectives of APIC’s programs?

The objectives of APIC’s programs are to aid development of a superior grade of project management professionals as project value creators, project and program leaders, strategic thinkers and agents of change in both private and public sectors of the economy. Typical roles to aspire to in industry include Program Manager, Project Director, Senior Project Manager, Executive Project Manager, Department Head, Director etc. Given the complexity and uncertainty that typically characterise large projects and programs, as well as their business environment, project and program leaders need refined leadership and professional skills. Research has shown that this type of far-sighted and well-developed professionals are in demand in industry and government, particularly as the number, size and diversity of national and regional projects and programs increase over the coming decades.

What are the objectives of the MBA course?

The Master of Business Administration is a formally accredited postgraduate award conforming to the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
MBA graduates will acquire knowledge of contemporary project, program and systems management as well as high level professional skills and attitude. The emphasis is on the enhancement of specific professional skills and knowledge, undertaken in a combination of coursework and research, and the acquisition of competencies needed to perform in a complex environment/project/program. It is possible to study MBA in one of the 4 industry streams that APIC offers:
(1) Construction & Infrastructure;
(2) IT and Services;
(3) Industrial and Process Plant; and
(4) Manufacturing and General.
One of the most significant aspects of the course design and objectives is the emphasis placed on development of strategic and business expertise associated with projects, programs and organisations in a particular industry stream. This approach maximises employability prospects. This emphasis is one of the differentiating aspects of the courses APIC offers in this field.

What is the scope of MBA?

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is awarded upon completion of 12 course units and the Research Project. On commencement of studies all candidates are required to complete the Professional Development Planning (PDP) workshop.

To gain a better understanding of APIC’s professional competencies and methods of assessment and development please visit www.apicollege.edu.au and view "Competency-based Training".

What is the educational philosophy at APIC?

“I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.” Confucius quote (China's most famous teacher, philosopher, and political theorist, 551-479 BC) APIC subscribes to the philosophy of learning through research and engagement in realistic settings. APIC emphasises the non-linear and complex nature of professional assignments and their complex environments. While learning is context-based, the development of competencies is not constrained.
Competency acquisition is generally internal to the actors who engage with the project and the host environment. Of course, there is intervention in terms of advice and mentoring, i.e. models needed to interpret the complex settings and the attendant challenges, theories, techniques and tools, assessment and feedback etc. This model of learning must not be confused with unstructured learning or ad-hoc experience.
To accelerate the learning process, each course unit commences with an intensive knowledge workshop that lays the foundation for accelerated learning and acquisition of superior capabilities. Workshops are taught by leading academics and practitioners in the field. Students then receive mentoring and continuous feedback to conduct their project phase.
Under APIC’s approach individual learning deepens within a context and process. Typically students work on challenging assignments under which they study real life managerial issues and challenges, make sense of the same, design and apply their own actions then evaluate the results, adjust their actions and continue the process till they can meet or exceed their goals in an optimal manner. The whole environment is rich with opportunities for engagement, reflection and learning.

When does it start and how long does it take?

The MBA duration is 2 years of full time studies (4 semesters).

See Academic Calendar for next available dates.

Applications close one month prior to the semester start date. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

What is the mode of study?

Each unit of study has a 4-day intensive workshop plus 10-week project-based studies conducted under academic mentoring and supported by the College’s online system, tools and knowledge base.

Who is qualified to win these scholarships?

Academic merit and capacity to excel in this field are the principal criteria for winning one of the Foundation Scholarships. In addition, the candidates must demonstrate a commitment to complete the course with merit and be available to mentor up to 10 new students over a 2 year period.

Are there any constraints and conditions?

The scholarship holder complete the whole MBA(PPM) with merit full time; otherwise he/she becomes liable for full payment of the respective tuition fees.
Part time work is allowed provided that it will not be at the expense of the studies. All students can also work full time during the recess times.
