Notification to Students Regarding COVID-19 Scams
Student Services would like to draw your attention to scams relating to COVID-19.
Since the beginning of January 2020 the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's (ACCC) Scamwatch have received close to 100 reports of scams linked to COVID-19.
The types of scams being reported include:

  • Phishing scams sent via email or text message that claim to be providing official information on coronavirus and attempt to try and obtain personal data
  • Investment scams claiming coronavirus has created opportunities to make money
  • Fake online stores claiming to have a vaccine or cure
  • Fake online stores selling products such as face masks and do not provide the goods

ACCC's Scamwatch website warns that the number of reports and types of scams are increasing.
