Prof. Ian Rouse

Professor Rouse has a career working in and contributing to knowledge in both Higher Education and Industry. His passion for Education, Global Health and empowering all people - together with expertise in leadership and management, information management and cultural diversity has led him to make significant contributions to many people in Australia and the Asia-Pacific Region.

Ian brings a wide range of leadership, management and interpersonal skills developed over 20 years of experience in senior management roles in information, analysis and research organisations, tertiary institutions and government departments. Ian also offers a diverse range of knowledge and management experience in numerous community and sporting organisations in Australia and overseas.

Professor Rouse has significant knowledge and skills in Higher Education. He has held senior academic positions including acting Vice Chancellor of the Fiji National University, the Dean of the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Fiji National University, Executive Dean of the Division of Health, Engineering and Sciences at Victoria University, and Associate Dean of Research and Enterprise Development and Head of the School of Public Health at Curtin University. He currently holds adjunct Professorial roles with Monash and Federation Universities in Melbourne Australia and as Associate Dean of Scholarship and Research at the Asia Pacific International College together with teaching roles in Leadership and Management, Field Epidemiology, Data for Decision Making and Project Management. Ian’s industry leadership roles have included those of General Manager, Chief Information Officer and Director.

Professor Rouse’s Academic Qualifications include a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours in in Biomedical Sciences, a Doctorate in Epidemiology, a Graduate Diploma in Health Sciences (Distinction) with a focus on Research and Evaluation and a Diploma in Project Management. Ian also studied at the Harvard School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School as a post-doctoral fellow.

Professor Rouse has a broad knowledge of epidemiology and health statistics, information planning and management, health policy and planning, the use of data and information for monitoring, evaluation and decision-making in the health and education sectors and the role of project management in the HealthCare sector. Ian has delivered more than 100 lectures and been associated with more than 100 peer reviewed publications and reports across a broad spectrum of topics. He has also successfully supervised numerous doctoral and research master’s students.

Ian continues to focus on national and international consulting specializing in leadership development in the health and educational sectors and has significant international training and facilitation expertise in Leadership and Management and expertise in planning and developing e-Learning programs in a variety of Learning Management Systems.

He has a management style which is strongly people focused and seeks to lead and envision all staff and to challenge them to improve their skills and achieve their potential – whatever position they may hold in the organisation. He has a strong commitment to transformation - based on clear vision, goal setting, communication and accountability and he has a long-standing interest in Strategic and Organizational planning facilitated by Project Management.
